Here’s a list of 5 home design trends that are sure to be huge in 2016.

  1. Coloured Steel Appliances: Black stainless steel is making quite an impression upon homebuyers and renovators. Traditional, shiny-metal is on its way out, and the darker alternative is on its way in. It is well known that the trendy colours seem to change every year. We all remember the pastel yellow ovens, right?
  2. Raw Materials: We saw this movement start to emerge last year and know it’s going to be even more common in 2016. The use of exotic woods, concrete and metals will likely be seen throughout new homes, but it’s really going to be all about mixed metals, such as black iron and copper.
  3. Vibrant Colour: The colour revolution has arrived. Get ready to see splashes of bright colour in homes. Grey has always been the most popular shade, and don’t expect that to change, but do expect to see more bright colour integrated into home interiors. Trending shades this year will include vibrant yellow and teal.
  4. Bidets: Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Although the separate bidet unit in bathrooms never really took off, manufacturers have begun creating combination bidet and toilet units, and they’ve really been catching on. An estimated 5 percent of renovated master bathrooms now include bidets.
  5. Sustainable Design: Social trends have long been known to influence design, and this coming year we can expect a big movement towards eco-friendly interiors. Just as sustainability in architecture focuses blending form and function, it’s important to concentrate on using interior design elements that not only look great, but also are well made and decrease the impact to our ecosystem.
